AMTK 90208 - Los Angeles, CA - 2/20/11
Title:  AMTK 90208 - Los Angeles, CA - 2/20/11
Description:  Amtrak "Cabbage" 90208, seen on the rear of "Pacific Surfliner" #799 on February 20, 2011, began life as F40PH 208. When the F40PHs were retired, many were rebuilt as baggage cars that, because of the locomotive cab, could be used on the front of push-pull passenger trains. Train #799 has Dash 8-32BWH 510 on the head-end. I hope no luggage fell out of that open door!

BNSF 4279
Title:  BNSF 4279
Description:  Following the closing on Sunday, May 1st, 2016, of Fullerton, Californias, annual Railroad Days celebration, the four mainline display pieces were coupled together to begin - eventually - the trip back to Los Angeles. Brand-new BNSF Railway ES44C4 4279 is coupled to Santa Fe 4-8-4 3751, Amtrak "Cabbage" (an F40PH diesel converted to an unpowered cab car/baggage car) 90208 and Amtrak P42DC 42. The two Amtrak pieces are both wearing the distinctive Veterans paint scheme. Nearly two hours after closing, the hundreds of spectators got what they wanted - the 3751 belching smoke and steam as this train headed east to rejoin the mainline. It would be almost another hour and a half before the real show, however, when this train would depart westbound for L.A. with the steamer providing the power. It may have been dark, but the sound was amazing!
