SIR 446
Title:  SIR 446
Description:  While a part of New York Citys vast MTA transit system, the Staten Island Railway differs from the subway in several ways: The equipment is lettered for the SIR (as seen here), the trackage is above ground, the SIR uses position signals and it is unconnected to the rest of the system. Opened in 1860 as a part of the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad, the 14-mile long SIR operates completely within the borough of Staten Island.

MTA 7151
Title:  MTA 7151
Description:  14th Street/Union Square is the New York subways fourth busiest station, because it is a transfer point for 7 lines (the 4, 5, 6, L, N, Q and R trains). In 2011, almost 35,000,000 riders used this station. A 4 Train (Lexington Avenue Express), made up of R142 cars (built by Bombardier in the early 2000s), comes to a stop on its way north to Woodlawn. This station is a labrynth of stairways, walkways and bridges, and taking the time to stop and watch the various surges of commuters as trains arrive and depart is fascinating in itself.
